Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, professionally known as Vladimir Putin (Владимир Путин), is a Russian politician and former intelligence officer. He is the president of Russia, serving since 2012 and previously from 2000 to 2008.

It was at the university that Putin met Anatoly Sobchak, an assistant professor of business law who later co-authored the Russian constitution. Sobchak played a key role in Putin's rise in Saint Petersburg, while Putin, in turn, helped advance Sobchak's career in Moscow.
