Jean-Claude Van Damme's Career as Martial Artist and Actor

Jean-Claude Van Damme was born on 18th October 1960 in Sint-Agatha-Berchem, Brussels-Capital, Belgium. From his childhood, he was fascinated by Martial Arts so at the age of 10, he joined a Shōtōkan karate school in 1970 and at the age of 18, he received his black belt in karate. As a martial artist, he does Shōtōkan Karate and Kickboxing in which he won several games, and he practiced ballet for five years. In his martial arts career, in 1979 he won the European Karate Championship.

After his martial arts career, he decided to build his career in the entertainment industry as an actor so in 1982 he moved to the United States with his childhood friend. He did many short roles in many movies and TV shows, he also worked as a bouncer at a bar. After a long struggle finally in 1988 he got a good chance to work as a lead actor in the American action film 'Bloodsport' in which he played the role of Frank Dux, the film was directed by Newt Arnold and the film was based on the biography of an American soldier 'Frank Dux'.
