Dhanin Chearavanont was born on April 19, 1939, in Bangkok, Siam, Thailand, as the youngest of four sons of Chia Ek Chor. He completed his primary education in 1949 at the Chinese Sarasit Wittaya School in Ban Pong District, Ratchaburi Province.
In 1952, Dhanin Chearavanont went to China to attend Shantou No.1 High School. He later continued his higher education in 1956 at the Education University of Hong Kong, and also received training from the National Defence College of Thailand.
