B. Saroja Devi debuted her acting career with Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidasa, released in 1955, where she played a supporting role. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada. Since then she has been actively working and she received the Padma Sri, the fourth-highest civilian honor, in 1969 Padma Bhushan, the highest civilian award, in 1992 from the Government of India, an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University and the Kalaimamani award from Tamil Nadu.
