Vanuatu, officially the Republic of Vanuatu, is an island country in Melanesia, located in the South Pacific Ocean. Port Vila city is the harborside capital and main hub of Vanuatu on Efate Island.
According to the encyclopedia, Vanuatu was first inhabited by Melanesian people. The first Europeans to visit the islands were a Spanish expedition led by Portuguese navigator Fernandes de Queirós, who arrived on the largest island, Espíritu Santo, in 1606. Queirós claimed the archipelago for Spain, as part of the colonial Spanish East Indies and named it La Austrialia del Espíritu Santo.

History Vanuatu Currency (VATU)
according to Wikipedia in 1981, The VATU was officially introduced, one year after independence, to replace the New Hebrides franc at par. It was issued as a single unit with no subdivision, with the 1 Vatu coin being the smallest denomination issued, in a similar vein to the (post-1953) Japanese yen and the Tajikistani ruble.
The ISO 4217 currency code for the Vanuatu vatu is VUV. Its nationally recognized symbol VT is the most often used in written format. The vatu's introduction also saw the end of the official circulation of the Australian dollar in Vanuatu.
