Donald Trump was born with the name Donald John Trump on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York City, United States as the fourth child of Fred Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod Trump. He grew up with older siblings Maryanne, Fred Jr., and Elizabeth and younger brother Robert in the Jamaica Estates neighborhood of Queens.

Trump attended the private Kew-Forest School through seventh grade and New York Military Academy, a private boarding school, from eighth through twelfth grade. Trump considered studying at the University of Southern California's film school but ended up enrolling at Fordham University in 1964. He attended the liberal arts college at Fordham's Rose Hill campus for two years, before transferring to the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated in May 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in economics.

In the 1970s, Trump's parents became members of the Marble Collegiate Church, which is part of the Reformed Church in America. He attended Sunday school and was confirmed in 1959 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, Queens. In 2015, he identified as a Presbyterian and mentioned attending Marble Collegiate Church, although the church stated he was not an active member.

In 2019, Trump appointed his pastor, televangelist Paula White, to the White House Office of Public Liaison. By 2020, he described himself as a non-denominational Christian.
